Vitamin D Deficiency and Your Health

Vitamin D , that everything we have and we all - but do you really know how much you need ? You know how you found ?

Most of us know we need vitamin D from the sun - not the beams of vitamin D we get from space, but rather the sun and skin work somehow to create this vitamin shoots essential in our body. Great.

Basically there are two types of vitamin D D2: , which is synthesized from plants , and D3, which is synthesized by us when the UVB rays of the sun hit our skin ! Vitamin D is essential. It helps our body to maintain blood levels of calcium and phosphorus in good health.

Recent research has shown, however, that many of us do not get enough vitamin D. The next time you go to a physical examination , ask your doctor to check your vitamin D level , you might be surprised. Your level of vitamin D can be surprisingly low !

Some of the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency include muscle weakness and bone pain . However, sometimes the symptoms can be subtle . Even without symptoms , too little vitamin D can pose risks to health. In fact, vitamin D deficiency has been associated with an increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease , cognitive impairment in the elderly , severe asthma in children and cancer.

Now , you might think , well, go to the beach - to soak in some sun ! But what we have heard how it might be overkill , is not it ? No, maybe we should think about increasing the amount of vitamin D that we get in our diet. Do not worry , there are plenty of foods that are in abundance that can help us get the amount of vitamin D we need .

There are a variety of animal sources, for example, are excellent sources of vitamin D. Fish are a good source . More specifically, there is cod liver oil , salmon , sardines , tuna and mackerel ( holy mackerel ! ) . Eggs are a good source too.

Are you vegetarian or vegan ? Congratulations, but you still need your Vitamin D! If you are lacto - ovo - vegetarian, you should have no problem getting some of their vitamin D in milk and eggs.

Some algae , fungi and even mushrooms are good sources of vitamin D for vegans out there .

And if a vegan (like me) or not, you may want to consider a vitamin D supplement . Some research suggests that we do not get nearly the amount of vitamin D in our body as our body needs. And the truth is that nobody knows for sure how much would be optimal ! Personally , I prefer to complete my vitamin D intake .
